Assumptions and sources

The calculator reads a single, editable configuration. Each input applies a documented factor: access, waterway exposure and existing condition adjust the scope; replacement adds removal; repairs are expressed as a share of a comparable new wall. Permits, surveys and engineering are shown separately.

Residential dollar ranges are not published yet. The research behind this tool found no residential per-foot price for Northeast Florida in any public source, and the national consumer cost guides could not be verified directly, so their figures are recorded for review but not shown. Until a working contractor approves documented ranges, the calculator shows a scope profile.

For context, these Florida public seawall projects published both a length and a cost:

  • Fort Lauderdale, Cordova Road seawall replacement (2019): About 1,000 ft replaced at a higher elevation; $4,000,000 total project cost in the city's state funding request ($4,000,000 ÷ 1,000 ft). Source
  • Fernandina Beach, Fernandina Harbor Marina seawall (2019): 267 ft replaced, 4 ft taller, including planning, permitting and site preparation; $1,040,000 ($1,040,000 ÷ 267 ft). Source
  • Fernandina Beach, Fernandina Harbor Marina seawall (earlier request) (2018): 270 ft replaced, 4 ft taller, including planning, permitting and site preparation; $1,940,000 ($1,940,000 ÷ 270 ft). Source
  • St. Augustine, Avenida Menendez seawall project (2023): Mixed scope over about 570 ft: repair the face and cap, add a new wall behind it and replace about 85 ft; $1,500,000 estimate ($1,500,000 ÷ 570 ft). Source

Public projects include raising walls, engineering, permitting and public-works conditions, so they are not residential prices. Read the Florida Bulkhead Cost Report for what drives price and how to compare contractor estimates.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a quote?

No. The calculator is a planning tool. Only a contractor who has seen the site, the existing wall and the permit requirements can price a project.

Where do the numbers come from?

Florida Bulk Head does not show dollar ranges until they are supported by documented, current evidence and reviewed by a working contractor. Until then the calculator shows a scope profile: how complex your inputs make the project and what drives the cost.

Why does access matter so much?

Equipment has to reach the wall. Open yards allow land-based equipment; tight lots, pools and landscaping can limit it, and some walls can only be built from a barge, which changes mobilization and daily production.

Why are permits and engineering separate?

They depend on the jurisdiction and project scope rather than wall length. See Florida seawall permits for the agencies that may be involved.
